Irish ranked 9th heading into Chicago showdown with Miami

The Notre Dame football team moved up to 9th in the Associated Press rankings despite not playing this weekend.

The Irish moved up thanks to Stanford's Thursday loss to Washington that dropped the Cardinal to 18th in the country. Notre Dame and Stanford play in two weeks at Notre Dame Stadium.

Before that, undefeated Irish will meet 4-1 Miami in Chicago. Coverage begins with NewsCenter 16 at 6 on Saturday live from Soldier Field, followed by "Countdown to Kickoff" at 6:30pm. It all leads up to the Irish and the Canes at 7:30, all on Channel 16.

Notre Dame is the only Division I team left in the country who has yet to trail in a game.

Miami improved to 3-0 in the ACC with a 44-37 win over NC State. Quarterback Stephen Morris set the Miami and ACC passing record with 566 yards in the air. He threw five touchdowns including a 62-yarder in the final 20 seconds to Phillip Dorsett that won the game for the Canes.
