After a long pre-season, the Irish football players are very excited and anxious for 3:42pm to arrive on Saturday for the opening kickoff of the season opener against Rice.
"It's going to be crazy for sure," Irish quarterback Everett Golson says as he prepares to play in his first game for Notre Dame since 2012 after missing the entire 2013 season due to an academic suspension.
Golson knows it will be a special feeling as he runs out of the tunnel.
"Things like that last for 30 seconds, maybe a minute," Golson says. "then you got to dial in at what's the task at hand. That's what i'm tryhing to prepare myself for."
5th year senior Christian Lombard missed most of last season due to injuries. He's run out of the tunnel many times in his career but its always special.
"It's an experience very few people get to do in their lives so never take it for granted," Lombard says. "Running out of the tunnel is awesome."
Fellow offensive lineman Nick Martin, a newly crowned Irish captain, is also returning from injury.
"I can't wait," Martin says. "I haven't played a game since BYU. I'm eager to get out on the field, eager to get out there."
Wide Receiver Chris Brown is entering his junior season but after two years of making a few big plays in an otherwise minor role, Brown is now a starter and a go to option for Golson.
"Unbelievably excited," Brown says. "It's the first game of the season so if you can't get up for the first game of the season, you shouldn't be playing."
Notre Dame and Rice kickoff at 3:42pm. Countdown to Kickoff gets you started at 2pm on WNDU.
