When you grow up an Irish fan, you believe every season should be magical. You know that everyone in a gold helmet will play like a champion. And you expect the rest of the college football world to be a tad bit jealous of your team.
For the past 10 years, those bleeding blue and gold have felt pangs of disappointment. But then came the 2012 season.
A season full of ups and then even more ups As Kelly's army found themselves heading to South Beach.
And now, thousands of fans have traveled south in order to watch their team reign at number one once again.
NewsCenter 16’s Gabby Gonzalez headed south as well and saw tens of thousands of fans pour into the city.
In true Notre Dame fashion, fans filled the tailgate lots since early this afternoon.
Many of these fans have been waiting 24 years to take part in this whole experience, some willing to go very far to get tickets to see the action on the field first-hand.
A lot of the people say that they came down without tickets but couldn't stand not to be in Miami for all of the hype.
This game is sold out, so to die-hard fans, a ticket is like gold.
So, there's one guy out there who has set the bar pretty high for all the boyfriends out there. Tommy Hall surprised his girlfriend with those golden tickets.
“He showed me the phone that said we were going. I was so anxious that I dropped the phone. I didn’t know what was going on. I looked him and immediately started crying,” said Leslie Star. “And I was like really!? And he said, “we’re sitting in the Alabama section,” and I was like, “I don’t care!”
Leslie had gotten her boyfriend a football signed by Manti Te’o for Christmas. She said she thought she was going to win on the present front.
But, he took her by surprise and she can't wait to spend her birthday night inside Sun Life Stadium.
