A special moment Friday night at the Notre Dame pep rally as Brian Kelly named walk on Chris Salvi as the gameday captain, Salvi is the first walk on to be named a captain since Kelly arrived at Notre Dame.
And the long time Irish fan put things in perspective in a big way Friday night inside Purcell Pavilion as the Irish get set to face Navy Saturday afternoon.
Chris Salvi, gameday captain, speaks about what this means to him, “Ever since I was a kid I was watching Notre Dame football I loved it for something like this to happen it's a dream come true."
"You see our mascot and he's always got a fist ready to fight, ready to fight the Fighting Irish. That’s who we are. Some adversity has hit our team over the last week and what happens the fist comes apart and becomes weak. Adversity hits people and people from the outside want to take you apart. It’s like this you cant fight like this so what we've done is close that fist. Coach Kelly has closed that fist. These players have closed this fist. We are ready to fight. And we are gonna knock out the Shipmen."
Salvi is from Chicago and went to the same high school as Declan Sullivan.
Notre Dame and Navy will meet at 3:30 Saturday afternoon, countdown gets you started at 2:30.
