Bennett Jackson stepping up in Notre Dame secondary

One of the perceived weaknesses heading into this season was the Irish secondary with the loss of Harrison Smith, Robert Blanton, and Gary Gray.

Track star and special teams beast, Bennett Jackson is stepping up to fill the void, and he's earning high praise from Coach Kelly.

Brian Kelly, Irish Head Coach, says the track standout is ready to help the Irish in the 2012 season. “Well I can tell you Bennett Jackson is going to be a heck of a good football player for us. Knowing what I’ve seen over the past 6 or 7 practices I feel really good about this position. I think the 'Y' corner position, the field corner, is one that is still going to be competitive. I think Bennett Jackson is going to be a really good player for us.”

Jackson converted from wide receiver to cornerback last year. Lo Wood is expected to grab hold of the other cornerback position.
