NewsCenter 16 has learned that Cincinnati head football coach Brian Kelly will interview with Notre Dame officials on Tuesday in New York City about succeeding Charlie Weis.
Irish Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick will be in the Big Apple on for the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, featuring Tim Brown.
At 4pm on Monday, Kelly wrote on his Twitter page that, "Just informed our team that Notre Dame has contacted me and I will listen to what they have to say."
Kelly won the Big East championship on Saturday when his Cincinnati Bearcats defeated Pitt at Heinz Field. UC will face Florida in the Sugar Bowl.
Kelly has been the name mentioned the most when discussions have centered on who could be the 29th head coach at Notre Dame. Kelly built championship programs at Grand Valley State and Central Michigan before taking the job at Cincinnati. The Bearcats are in a BCS game for the second straight season. UC played Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl after the 2008 season.
There are additional reports that Notre Dame will also interview Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, but Newscenter 16 cannot confirm that at this time. Harbaugh and Stanford's Athletic Director denied he will interviewing on Monday night.
