South Bend's Ryan Newman was involved in a horrific crash Sunday at Talladega with just five laps left, but managed to walk away with no injuries.
Newman was bumped and then hit, flipping his car over onto the hood of Kevin Harvick's car. The 39 then went crashing into the wall, and then twisted and turned its way down the track, flipping over several times before landing on its hood in the grass.
The red flag came out and the race was halted 13 minutes as Newman was cut out of the car. He finished 36th.
One lap after the race resumed, another crash occurred, causing Mark Martin's car to flip across the track.
Jamie McMurray snapped an 86-race winless streak under caution.
Three-time defending series champion Jimmie Johnson is being credited with an eighth-place finish -- enough to likely wrap up a NASCAR record fourth consecutive title.
