The Detriot Tigers rode Justin Verlander's 131-pitch performance Monday night, escaping with a 3-2 win with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th.

On Tuesday, the Royals offered up one of their hottest pitchers in Bruce Chen, but despite having a 1.64 ERA so far this season he's still winless - which shows how the Royals have struggled to score runs this year.

Ramon Santiago struck first for the Tigers in the top of the second with a fly to the right, scoring Delmon Young.

The Royals broke through to tie the game in the bottom of the third, with Alex Gordon grounding up the middle to center field, scoring Alcides Escober.

In the eighth, Prince Fielder and Jose Valverde each brought two runs in, gving the Tigers a 3-1 lead that they would keep.

Final: Detroit 3, Kansas City 1.
