With Mike Brey watching on, Marian junior Demetrius Jackson did his thing--leading his Knights to a 71-66 victory over Clay in the Northern Indiana Conference boys hoops opener for both teams Friday night at Clay.
Marian is now 4-1 on the season. It's the first loss for the Colonials.
Elsewhere in the NIC, Washington defeated Adams 87-84 spoiling Milt Cooper's return to the West Side. The former Panther coach is now running the show at Adams and lost his first game as the Eagles head coach. Washington is 2-0 while Adams drops to 3-1.
At Alumni Gym, Mishawaka crushed St. Joe 61-36. The Cavemen are 3-0 while the Indians drop to 0-2.
At Riley, the undersized Wildcats couldn't keep up with Central in the end---falling to the Blue Blazers 84-78. Central snaps a 6-game losing streak with the victory. Riley drops to 1-3.
Penn was the lone NIC team not playing a conference game Friday night. The Kingsmen however were hosting Concord in what could be a 4A regional preview. The Minutemen prevailed 57-47 to improve to 4-0. Penn drops to 0-2.
