The community has come through in a very big way for South Bend Washington's state-bound football team. Donors have given them $8,500 over the last two days, to help pay for the trip to Indy.
While the IHSAA gives some money to schools, Washington wanted its players to have the greatest experience possible. The donations will make that dream come true.
Chris Matthys, Washington Athletic Director, describes why they worked so hard to raise the money, “These are all things go directly to kids to help them remember this for the rest of their lives. We're just happy to give it to them. I know for guys who played on championship teams in the past know how special that experience was for them. I think that's why guys were so excited to help out this team and gives these kids that championship experience.>
Washington takes on Indy Cathedral Saturday at 3:30 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
