Warsaw in search of deja vu when it comes to NLC championship

Friday night, the Warsaw football team looks to win at least a share of the Northern Lakes Conference championship for the first time since winning it three years in a row from 1999-2001.

It's been 11 years for Michiana's 2nd most populated school to win a conference title on the gridiron.

The Tigers can win a share of the NLC with a win at home over Concord. Warsaw, Concord and Plymouth are all tied for 1st in the conference standings with 5-1 league records heading into the regular season finale. Plymouth can also win a share of the NLC with a win over NorthWood.

Warsaw kept its NLC title hopes alive with a thrilling 17-10 overtime win over NorthWood last Friday night. That was actually a sign of deja vu for the Tigers. Coach Phil Jensen says the team also rallied from a halftime deficit to beat NorthWood in overtime at Andrews Field 11 years ago and then went on to win the conference title a week later.

"One more time," Jensen screamed to his team in their postgame conversation on the field. "One more time."

Warsaw and Concord kickoff at 7:30 at Warsaw Friday night.
