Tully remarkable as Elkhart Central wins 1st ever state baseball title

Tanner Tully drove in the game's only run with a leadoff home run and then pitched a complete game shutout as Elkhart Central won its first ever state championship in baseball with a 1-0 win over Indianapolis Cathedral in the 4A State Championship game Saturday night at Victory Field in Indy.

Tully, headed to Ohio State, hit a towering home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the 1st inning.

He was then incredible on the mound, striking out 12 batters and scattering five hits as Central handed Cathedral its only loss of the season.

Central centerfielder Matt Eppers was awarded the Mental Attitude Award. Eppers will play at Ball State next year.

The Blazers are a senior laden team to say the least with 8 seniors in the starting lineup.

Central will celebrate its state championship Monday night at 6pm at the High School.
