Top area hoopsters to play in Michiana All-Star game at Bethel on March 26th

The 2012 Michiana McDonald's High School All-Star rosters were announced Tuesday in preparation for the event taking place on Monday, March 26 at 7:00pm on the campus of Bethel College.

Headlining the roster is 6'1 junior guard Demetrius Jackson who has helped guide the Knights of Marian High School to the their first ever Class 3A regional championship playing in the semi-state this Saturday against Norwell High School. Jackson will be joined by teammate Robert Mischler who will be playing in the Ivy League at Cornell next season.

The Elkhart Memorial Crimson Chargers are also playing in the semi-state and a huge part of their success is due to Markese McGuire and Todd Johnson. Both have helped lead EMHS to a 24-1 record facing 4A foe Carmel High School this Saturday. The Chargers also posted a perfect 7-0 N.L.C. record.

Alongside the Charger duo will be the outstanding backcourt from Penn High School in senior guard Jeff Laidig and junior Leo Svete. Both helped guide Coach Al Rhodes and the Kingsmen to the sectional championship game this year. Laidig will go on to play collegiately as he has signed his National Letter of Intent to play for recent NCAA Tournament participant Belmont University next season. Svete has numerous Division-I opportunities, but has yet to choose his future school.

Coach Chad Johnston's Washington Panthers won the Northern Indiana Conference this season with the help from Bo Calhoun and Carl Taylor. The post players guided the Panthers to a perfect 8-0 in league play and an overall record of 17-4. Calhoun was chosen to continue his career playing for Ball State University.

Niles High School's Myles Busby and Austin Parks are named to the all-star roster as they helped the Vikings to their first Class A District Championship in a decade. NHS is currently 19-4 under Coach Todd Pawielski.

Mishawaka High School standouts Brandon Vanderheggen and Chris Mitchell join the roster after bringing a 13-8 record to Coach Ryan Watson's team falling to eventual sectional champion South Bend Adams.

A trio of players from Concord High School are named to the all-star team in Franko House, Jason Spriggs and Seth Huxford. The three helped the Minutemen to an 18-5 overall record and second place tie in the N.L.C. making it to the sectional championship game. Spriggs has chosen to pursue his football talents by signing to play for the Hoosiers this fall. Huxford is a three-sport athlete also playing football and baseball. Seth opted out of Division-I baseball scholarships offers to pursue a two-year missions trip overseas.

Warsaw standout Lucas Grose joins the all-star roster leading the Tigers to a 13-8 record. Grose will continue his academic and athletic careers next season at Hillsdale College in Michigan.
North Judson's dynamic duo of Winston Yergler and Josh Eckert guided the Blue Jays to 17-4 record for Coach Phil Shabi. Eckert is taking his scholastic skills to MIT beginning this fall while Yergler is undecided.

Plymouth Pilgrim standout Mack Mercer guided Coach Ryan Bales' team to a 16-6 record and a tie for second in the N.L.C. Mercer
Triton Trojan's newest all-time leading scorer, Clay Yeo, joins the roster after guiding THS to another sectional championship. The Valparaiso University bound guard led THS to a 20-6 record and a tie for first place in the N.S.C.

Nate Ritchie also earns all-star status with his great year for the Northridge Raiders who finished the season 10-11.

The outstanding play of South Bend Clay's Taron Miller, Adams' Rosey Green and Riley Wildcat Brock Cosey help them earn all-star honors. Miller helped guide the Colonials to a 13-9 record. Green guided the Eagles to a sectional championship, a 16-8 record and a third place finish in the N.I.C. Cosey led his team in scoring for Riley High who went 7-15.

Hometown hero Brant Yoder from Westview High School joins the all-star team guiding the Warriors to a 21-6 record and a sectional title for Coach Rob Yoder.

The area all-stars extend down to Peru, Indiana as point guard Travis Smith joins the roster. The point guard averaged 17 points per game for first-year coach Brian Strong.

Rounding out the roster is Wawasee junior standout Jake Thompson who will not be participating due to a shoulder injury suffered earlier this season.

The Michiana McDonalds High School All-Star Game will also feature Ronald McDonald and a visit from Swoop, the mascot of the South Bend Silver Hawks baseball team.

Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.
