St. Joseph's High School students hung up their skates and traded them in for sleds on Sunday at the Ice Box in South Bend.
The Adam Milani Memorial sled hockey game is an exhibition pitting the St. Joseph students with South Bend's River City Sled Rovers.
Adam was paralyzed in a hockey accident back in 1984 and passed away in May of 2005.
With this game, players sit in sleds with blades underneath, and use the sticks and many of the same rules as in a regulation hockey game.
St. Joseph’s hockey coach, Chris Kleva, says, “We have a team over here from Ft. Wayne and one down from Grand Rapids, and they've come down every year for the event, and the local team is spun off from starting this challenge about three years ago.”
While it may look like fun, it does not come cheap.
Each sled costs about $650.
