Plymouth embraces idea of second season in sectionals

There is a new attitude in Plymouth, and that is because we are in a new season.

The Rockies will host NorthWood on Friday night in the 4A sectional semifinals.

It's our Pizza Hut Spotlight Game of the Week.

Plymouth was just 3-6 entering the sectional playoffs, but the Rockies feel they have new life after five straight losses to close out the regular season.

Plymouth is used to having a ton of pressure this time of year, but because of the way the regular season played out, they do not feel that pressure this year.

Coach John Barron says, “The greatest thing about high school football is the second season. You don’t get any points for having a great regular season. Everybody right now is 1-0. We have the same record as NorthWood, and that’s what we’ve been telling our kids.”

Wide receiver Chase Peters says, “Being in the position we are now, we really don’t have much pressure. We can just play to our best potential, and we don’t have much to lose.

Lineman Danny Stephenson adds, “It is kind of a second chance. I know what we’re capable of, the coaches know what we’re capable of, we all know what we’re capable of. We just want to show people what we can really do now.”

Plymouth also gets a second chance to beat NorthWood. The Panthers won in the regular season finale two weeks ago 21-8.
