Penn volleyball to celebrate state championship Tuesday night

After winning their second straight state championship trophy on Saturday, Penn Coach Sarah Hendricks and her seniors admired their big accomplishment.

Prior to last season, the Penn volleyball team had never won a state title, and now, they have won two in a row.

After graduating eight seniors from last year’s team, no one thought they would win it again, but they did, beating undefeated Avon in the state finals.

"No one can really say that this happens," said senior Emily Tarvares. "It doesn't happen to that many people and to be able to do it twice in a row is just an honor, and it was a lot of fun."

"I remember watching TV and watching the state as an 8th grader and thinking I would never be able to play at that level, and to be able to do it twice, it's a lot of fun," added Kaitlyn Hickey, who won the Mental Attitude Award in the tournament.

Penn will host a celebration for the volleyball team on Tuesday night in the arena at 7:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
