Although neither team came home with a state championship trophy, both Washington and Penn High School football teams were welcomed home by their schools for a job well done.
The South Bend Washington Panthers finished their season 11-4. They fell to Indianapolis Cathedral 42-7 in the State Finals for 4A. They were welcomed home Monday morning with an assembly.
Penn High School Kingsmen finished 14-1 and fell to Carmel 54-0 in the 5A State Championship. They were welcomed home Monday evening. Their coach, Cory Yeoman, said that all of their hard work paid off, and their season was successful.
"Practice was enjoyable all the time. They worked extremely hard, they prepared extremely hard. Great team, the focus. Worried about one opponent at a time. All the stuff you ask a team to do, but they do. Worked hard all the time," said Cory Yeoman, Penn High School football coach, "You have to remember these guys are 15, 16,17,18 year old guys, but to ask them what we asked them to do for 15 straight weeks, I think they did a great job."
