The Olympics are a long term goal and Texas A&M is in the very near future but for one last weekend, it's all about Indiana glory for Penn senior swimmer Bethany Galat.
On Friday and Saturday, Galat will swim in her final Indiana meets looking to take home state gold at the IHSAA Finals in Indianapolis.
"Definitely really sad," Galat says of her high school run coming to an end. "It's just sinking in for all of us now."
Galat is soaking it all in in every aspect. With her huge smile and infectious laugh, she's often jumping for joy watching her teammates succeed, even more excited than when she does herself.
"I just get so energized every time my team swims well," Galat explains.
That's why a gold medal in a relay is something Galat really wants. It's also something she's never won. She'll look to end that streak in the 200 Medley Relay.
"Relays are by far the best part of high school season," Galat says.
Then there's the individual events. Galat is the 2-time defending champion in the 200 yard Individual Medley and the defending champ in the 100 breaststroke. Wins in each event this weekend would give her five individual state championships.
"It's definitely my goal," she says. "It's definitely a long shot but I think it's possible. There's going to be a lot of good competition and I do well when I have competition."
No matter what, you can expect that big smile to be proudly on display all weekend long.
