This Friday night the Raiders of Northridge travel to Concord to take on the Minutemen in our Martin's Spotlight Game of the week. Both teams enter the game with a 4-1 record in the Northern Lakes Conference and will be battling for the number one spot.
The Raiders are 6-1 this season making it just the third time in 35 years that they have won 6 games in a season. While they have no intention of resting on their accomplishments they do have plenty of confidence heading into this weeks match-up.
"Right now we have worked our way into a situation where now we are a viable part as far as how this conference is going to shake up in these last two weeks of the NLC," Northridge head coach Tom Wogoman said. "The team right now is playing with confidence and we are looking forward to Friday with Concord. If we are going to be able to have a chance we have got to be able to walk on the field and play with that confidence."
On the other side of the field the Concord Minutemen will be looking to find some of their confidence. The last two weeks have not gone their way. Two weeks ago Jimtown came in and handed them a 35-14 loss at home. Then last week the Minutemen came up just short on the road at Plymouth, losing 42-39.
Yet Concord still sits atop the NLC alongside Northridge and Warsaw. They know what they have to do and aren't about to let a couple of losses derail their plans for an NLC title.
"We have seen some areas on film that our players know that they have to get better at if we hope to contend for this championship," Concord head coach Tim Dawson said. "We have to eliminate some of those mistakes in all three phases, but again sometimes your opponent has a lot to say about that. We just continue to prepare like we do every week and look at it as another big game." He added "We know we control our own destiny and it is going to take a tremendous effort for us to get this done on Friday night."
Concord has won the last four meetings between the two schools, including a win in the regular season and one in the post season last year. Kickoff in Concord is set for 7:30 Friday night.
