Major high school conference realignment in the area is expected to be finalized by next Wednesday as members of the Northern Indiana Conference will meet and vote on whether to add Jimtown, Bremen, Glenn and New Prairie to the conference and expand to 13 teams.
The NIC members currently include Penn, Mishawaka, Elkhart Central, Adams, Clay, Washington, Riley, Marian and St. Joe.
Athletic Directors from the NIC schools all met on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of expansion, with a formal vote and decision expected to be made at a meeting next Wednesday April 23rd.
A 13-team NIC would likely be divided into two divisions: big and small schools.
Jimtown, Bremen, Glenn and New Prairie are all current members of the Northern State Conference but the NSC is falling apart as its other member schools Triton, LaVille, Culver and Knox have already bolted for the new Hoosier North Athletic Conference (HNAC) alongside Caston, North Judson-San Pierre, Pioneer, West Central, & Winamac beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.
The four remaining NSC schools originally attempted to keep the NSC together by inviting the likes of Marian, Tippy Valley, Fairfield and Wawasee but all ultimately decided to decline.
