Mishawaka's Rohrer runs for next big championship Saturday

"Let's hear it for her. Anna Rohrer, the sophomore from Indiana."

Those were the sounds of a public address announcer at the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championship in San Diego in December as the Mishawaka sophomore took the lead.

"You think it can happen--maybe," Rohrer says thinking back to what was going through her mind as he raced for a national title. "But in the back of your head your like, probably not."

She did win it.

"Our 2012 Foot Locker National champion, Anna Rohrer," belted the PA announcer as Rohrer took home the championship.

"For something like that to actual happen--I feel so blessed, I really do," Rohrer says looking back with a giant smile. "People say I don't even have the words for it and it's indescribable but it really was."

No wonder Mishawaka High School gave Rohrer a wonderful welcome home celebration in December.

She admits, things are different now when she competes because the expectations are greater.

"I guess there's more pressure but that's a good thing," Rohrer explains. "I know what I'm capable of and it's really cool to think, I know I'm capable of doing this and go out and give my all and do my best.

The only thing that has really been able to stop Rohrer have been injuries. She suffered a small tear of her Achilles at the beginning of this track season that knocked her of competition for four weeks.

"It really wasn't that bad but it was still a month without running and for a runner, that's pretty tough," Rohrer points out.

Rohrer returned to action at the Northern Indiana Conference Track Meet three weeks ago. She's since won the sectional and regional championships in the 3200 meters and feels she's at 100 percent heading into Saturday where the national champ will look to win the state championship in the 2-mile.

"That's my hope," Rohrer says. "that's what I've been training for all season. we'll see how it goes. I think if I go out there and give it my all, I should be able to do it."

She's won a national title in cross country and state title in cross country. Why not a state title in track?

It's almost certainly going to happen Saturday in Bloomington.
