Cavemen must play better to take out Washington in 4A sectional final

The Mishawaka Cavemen go after their third straight sectional championship on Friday night when they travel to School Field to face South Bend Washington in the 4A final.

The Panthers destroyed the Cavemen in the regular season finale three weeks ago as Washington rolled to the 37-14 win.

Mishawaka’s Coach Bart Curtis was not mixing words about how he felt his team played that night.

“We had no interest in tackling anyone,” said Coach Curtis. “When the ball went up in the air, it was theirs, and when things got tough, we did not respond the way I had hoped. That's what I learned. Now, here it is three weeks later, and I think our kids are playing with a little more confidence. When you are playing a team of that caliber, that is that explosive, that is that good defensively, you got to bring it, or they are going to blow you out.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. at School Field.
