Congratulations to the Marian Knights, winners of the 1st 16 Spirit Award of the 2012 high school football season.

Marian outlasted Penn by a whopping three votes to win the award. They'll receive a plaque and check for $100 from Martin's Supermarkets for showing the most school Spirit on Friday Night Football.

Marian won with 30 percent of the vote. Penn had 29 percent, followed by Clay (17%), Plymouth (14%) and Memorial (11%).

Marian crushed DeKalb 47-12 Friday night. Senior Michael Whitfield had five touchdowns and 342 total yards.
