Marian wins 1A girls soccer state championship; St. Joe, Warsaw fall in title game

Sweet revenge!

One year ago, the Marian girls soccer team lost to Providence in shootout in the 1A girls soccer state championship. Saturday, the Knights got their chance at revenge and how sweet it is.

DJ Veldman and Shannon Hendricks scored 1st half goals as Marian defeated Providence 2-0 in Indianapolis to capture the first girls soccer state title in Marian history.

Devon Smith pitched a shutout in goal for Marian.

Head coach DJ Charmat has done an amazing job leading the Knights along with star forward Gabby Veldman, who goes out as a state champion. Veldman is Marian's all-time leading scorer and was pumped to see her little sister score the first goal in the state title game.
St. Joe lost in the girls soccer 2A State Finals 3-1 to Evansville Memorial.

Warsaw lost 2-0 to Columbus North in the boys soccer 2A State Finals.
