In one of the most competitive votes ever, the LaVille Lancers edged out three other area schools by just a handful of votes to capture the first 16 Spirit Award of the Friday Night Football season.
LaVille, S.B. St. Joe, Mishawaka and Adams all led the Spirit Award voting at various points throughout the weekend. In the end, the Lancers held off St. Joe by just three votes for the win. Adams and Mishawaka were each within 10 votes.
The Lancers have reason to be spirited. They are coming off a 31-0 shutout victory over South Central in Friday's first game. LaVille entered the season winning just one game in each of the last two seasons combined. Now, they've already matched that and did so in dominating fashion.
Later this week, NewsCenter 16 and Martin's will present the Lancers with a plaque and check for $100 for showing the most school spirit on Friday Night Football.
