In just his 3rd season as head coach Brian Stultz lead Riley to their first .500 season since 2000 going 5-5 before losing a heart breaker to Plymouth to end the season.
Now Stultz has the team striving to have an even better season this year.
"We have got to keep doing what we are doing and the kids have got to want it," Stultz said. "This senior class we have wants to up the senior class from last year."
This year the Wildcats return eight starters with four on each side of the ball to go along with an offensive line that is made up of five seniors.
But when you play in a conference as difficult as the Northern Indiana Conference there are always new challenges to face. For the Wildcats one of the biggest challenges is adapting to a completely different style of play from week to week.
"Every week we have a whole new thing coming, pretty much a whole new defensive style," Senior tight end and outside linebacker Jared Troxel said. "Like Penn and their different offense, Adams and their different defense, and Clay with their different defenses. You have to just study. We watch a lot of film. We have a lot of packets and walk over stuff, and just studying, keeping focus and just doing what you have to do."
The Wildcats will open their season on August 22nd against 2A opponent Boone Grove. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
