After going 4-5 in his first season, then 2-7 last year, Antwon Jones says he is starting to see the Vikings buy in to his program.
Last season Jones changed some rules within the program and lost a number of players who weren't ready to make the commitment he expected of them. While that hurt Niles in the short term, Coach Jones believes it is already starting to help them this year.
"It hurt us but I think it made the program stronger because the kids realized that you were going to have to buy in and you were going to have to do what you needed to do in order to be able to player," Jones said.
This year the team returns 14 starters and they too say they can see a difference in practice.
"We are starting to get the program changed around," Senior wide receiver Raquon Glena said. "We have got a lot more people coming out. We have got a lot less attitude than we had last year so everybody is pretty much picking it up now."
Coach Jones also cited a much improved defense as another key for his squad this year.
Vikings fans will get their first look at the 2014 squad on Thursday August 28th, when Niles travels to Kalamazoo to take on Norrix.
