The 2013 season was a disappointment for the Marian Knights football team. Injuries to key players led to the team dropping their last five games and finishing the season 4-6.
Now the Knights certainly have reasons to be optimistic as they return nine guys on both sides of the ball. One of their biggest pieces is their senior quarterback and D-1 basketball recruit Devin Cannady.
Cannady is part of a large senior class that hopes to turn things around this season and he believes that he can be a leader on this team.
"I plan to be the leader, the captain of the team," Cannady said. "The quarterback on the field and the point guard on the court. It is a lot of responsibility but I try and manage it and I have a lot of great seniors around me to help me as well."
Head coach Reggie Glon says he has seen a lot of growth out of Cannady this off season but doesn't expect him to have to do everything alone.
"Well, number one Devin was the leader for us last year," Coach Glon said. "He is a leader on the field by example and kids rally around him. He was the leader on our basketball team but he is also surrounded by a good group. We have got 17 seniors they are all leaders in their own way and they are all working together and they all have a common goal."
The Knights will begin working towards that goal on August 22nd when they face Fairfield. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
