On a day when Charlie Weis was back in South Bend looking to lure Washington receiver Gehrig Dieter to Kansas, Weis landed his first recruit as the Jayhawks football coach. And it's a former opponent of Dieter's.
Former Penn wide receiver Tre Parmalee committed to Kansas on Wednesday.
"Rock Chalk Jayhawk!" Parmalee wrote on his twitter page, announcing his decision.
Parmalee was previously committed to Northern Illinois but made the switch because of Weis.
"I appreciate all NIU has done for me & the respect they've shown me, but I've de-committed & am now committed to Kansas!" Parmalee said.
Parmalee's dad Bernie was Notre Dame's tight ends coach under Weis and was the lone assistant to go with Charlie to the Kansas City Chiefs. That's when Tre Parmalee left Penn for Bishop Miege in suburban Kansas City. Tre was the Kansas Player of the Year this past season.
