Concord makes history with baseball sectional title

Nick DeFreese was excellent on the mound and Brendan Curry shut the door in relief as the Concord baseball team beat Warsaw 2-1 Monday night to capture the 4A Baseball Sectional Championship at Memorial High School.

The Minutemen entered the post-season with just a 12-15 record so this run is extra special for the senior class. Concord will face Lake Central in the 4A Regional semifinals Saturday at 11:30am ET at LaPorte.

The victory gives Concord sectional titles in football, boys basketball and baseball in the same academic year for the first time in school history.

It's also marks the first time in school history that Concord has won the baseball and softball sectional titles in the same spring. The softball team won its first sectional crown in 27 years Friday and faces Penn in regionals on Tuesday.

In 3A, NorthWood defeated Fairfield for the baseball sectional crown at Whitko.
