Concord looking to bounce back from worst loss in 20 years

It's the last thing the Concord football team saw coming.

Last Friday night, the Minutemen rolled into Knepp Field to face rival Jimtown. They rolled out with their loss in 20 years.

Concord, 5-0 entering the game, was destroyed 48-0 by the Jimmies, who improved to 6-0 on the season. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong--from the very first play of the game until the very end of it.

It's the worst loss for Concord since losing to Hobart 55-0 in the final game of the 1992 season. The Minutemen did not win a game that season.

"I told our kids that we are going to see what kind of championship caliber team we are and see if we can bounce back and have short memories," Concord coach Tim Dawson explained.

Concord hosts Plymouth Friday night in our Martin's Spotlight game of the week. First place in the Northern Lakes Conference is on the line.

"We're still playing at home, we're still playing for a conference championship," Dawson said. "We still have a lot to play for. There's a lot of teams that would still like to 5-1. One game doesn't make a season but they took us to the woodshed and now we gotta recover."

The Rockies are 4-2 but have won three straight games. They are unbeaten since seven starters have returned from a suspension to start the season due to a violation of team rules. That included quarterback Ike Kastner.

"This Plymouth does the same type of things," Dawson said comparing the Rockies to the Jimmies. "They have tough kids and are going to come at you. They tackle well, they run the ball well and they have all their kids back. They have been playing some great football the last two weeks."

Kickoff from Jake Field is set for 7:30 Friday night.
