After posting a 23-3 record in 2009 and 2010 and capturing two regional championships, the Mishawaka football team suffered a setback last season with just a 7-5 record.

The Cavemen were extremely young, playing guys who probably weren't ready to be starters. But now, those inexperienced players have significant experience.

Mishawaka returns six starters on each side of the ball and is poised for a bounce back season.

No Caveman has more experience than quarterback Sam Schrader, who enters his 3rd season as the starter. Schrader says the goal is quite simple for Mishawaka this season, "Get to the Dome."

Mishawaka coach Bart Curtis says he's quite happy that Schrader where's Marroon and White on Friday nights and not any other colors. It allows coach to sleep better at night. Curtis calls Schrader the ultimate competitor who will knock over the checkers board if he thinks he's about to lose.

"He's that type of guy," Curtis says with a laugh.

Mishawaka opens the season on the road at Portage on August 17th. They return home in week two to face arch rival Penn.
