After a 20-13 win over Woodlan last week the Bremen Lions are looking for their second Regional title in 3 years. To do so they must travel to Rensselaer Central and beat a team that has given them trouble in recent years.
Back in 2010 the Lions and Bombers played each other for a Regional title with Rensselaer Central coming out on top 35-28 in double over-time.
This season the Bombers come in with a record of 10-2 with their only two losses coming by a total of just 7 points.
"They are extremely well coached, they are fundamentally sound, and they are not going to beat themselves," Bremen head coach Bob Holmes said. "It is going to boil down to what all good football games boil down to take care of the football, don't have very many turnovers, and make sure the five big plays of the game go your way."
The 9-3 Lions finished third in the Northern State Conference this season behind undefeated New Prairie and 10-2 Jimtown. Last weekend the Jimmies captured a 3A sectional title and the Cougars did the same in 4A. Coach Holmes believes facing that kind of competition during the regular season prepares them for deep runs in the playoffs.
"We are the only 2A school in our conference," coach Holmes said. "Our schedule is mostly made up of 3 and 4A teams and these teams that are still in the tournament are teams we have had to play. When you have to play that type of competition it really prepares us for the tournament and allows us to make the run that we are on."
Kickoff at Rensselaer Central is set for 7:30 this Friday night.
