Brandywine shoots for spot in girls hoops state quarterfinals Tuesday

After three straight regional championships, many felt the great run for the Brandywine girls basketball team was over after last season.

After all, the Bobcats lost all-state guard Carlie Newman to graduation.

But Brandywine's run isn't over--in fact--this may be their best season yet.

"No one expected us to be here," says senior point guard Mackenzie Shelton. "its been awesome to prove the doubters wrong."

"We've gone very far with this group," adds senior forward Victoria Knight. "No one thought we could do it and its an honor to be a part of this team."

The Bobcats are undefeated and are regional champions for a 4th straight year. They'll face Manchester Tuesday night at 7pm in Jonesville in the state quarterfinals.

"We're excited and we have a big test ahead [Tuesday] but we're looking forward to it," says Brandywine coach Josh Hood.

A win sends the Bobcats to the Breslin Center for the state semifinals for the 2nd time in four years.

"To have a chance to get back to the Breslin and play in front of a huge crowd--for our kids, would be something that would be spectacular," adds Hood. "
