Wednesday the Al Smith Wrestling Invitational began at Mishawaka High School, as planned, despite a shadow hanging over the program since allegations surfaced of a sexual assault case.
There were rumors that the meet, which is the third largest invitational in the state, was in jeopardy after the assault case first came to light earlier this month.
The case centers around five Mishawaka High School students, who are all part of the ongoing police investigation.
Few details are being released by police and School City of Mishawaka is not saying any more about wrestling Coach Darrick Snyder's employment status.
Wednesday officials at the invitational refused to comment on the case. The special victims unit says they have a lot of evidence to go through and are now following up on leads.
