Adams-Washington baseball game Monday to benefit those with special needs

A fun night of high school baseball for a great cause is set for Monday, May 14 at Notre Dame. The first ever Miracle Game at The University of Notre Dame will feature the John Adams Eagles and Washington Panthers in a Northern Indiana Conference baseball game. All proceeds from the game, hosted by Adams High School, will benefit the South Bend Miracle Park Project.

The proposed 18 acre Miracle Park Project aims to include a synthetic all weather playing surface that can be used for special needs children across Michiana. The project hopes to include a baseball field, basketball court and a track as well as other equipment that families of special needs children and other families can use.

Hundreds of Michiana special needs children have played on uneven grass and dirt Little League fields over the years. Those playing surfaces and even the traditional bases on them are not compatible with assistive devices, such as push and power wheel chairs and walking aides.

The proposed park would be located next to South Bend’s Blackthorn Golf Course.

While the goal of the game is to raise funds for the Miracle Park Project, the setting of The Miracle Game at The University of Notre Dame between Adams-Washington game makes it unique and historic as well. The May 14 game will mark the first time that two South Bend schools have played in the 18 year old Frank Eck Stadium.

The May 14 Miracle Game at the University of Notre Dame is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch. The night will begin with ceremonial first pitches to be thrown out by special guests.

Admission to the game is $1 for students, $2 for all SBCSC employees and $4 for all other adults. Donations of all amounts will also be accepted at the gate and throughout the game. Checks may be written to the South Bend Parks Foundation to the attention of the Miracle Parks Project.
