This week’s Martin's Spotlight Game of the Week will be in St. Joseph as the Bears host the Lancers in the War by the Shore.
St. Joe came up just short in 2012 falling 28-24 in the final minutes, which gave Lakeshore Coach Denny Dock his 250th career win.
This year the Bears and Lancer are both 2-0 heading into the game. St. Joseph has wins against Coldwater and Battle Creek Harper. The Lancers have put up more than 50 points in each of their first two games.
Head Coach Gandalf Church says his team is excited for the match up but it’s about getting better each day.
“You know we are playing early and I hope the community can still come out and bring support,” says St. Joseph’s Coach Gandalf Church. “It’s going to be a beautiful night for football. Hope it’s a great atmosphere the kids will be excited there’s some excitement in the air already. I tell the kids let everyone else worry about the game Monday through Thursday. I say worry about today’s practice get better today and then tomorrow worry about tomorrows practice, Thursday worry about Thursdays practice and then Friday its game time.”
Before the season Coach Dock called his team a "team of unknowns" but he really liked them, not much has changed in his mind.
“I still think we are unknown, especially defensively,” says Lakeshore Head Coach Denny Dock. “But I do like our team the way they have worked, their attitudes, their positive they support each other, and when you got that going that’s part of the battle. That’s a tough one sometimes to get over and if you can get kids playing together and really caring about each other you have a half decent chance.”
The battle for the Anchor Trophy kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday night.
Angelo Di Carlo will be there live for the game and we will have post game reaction on Friday Night Football.
