Muncie, In LaVonte Dority scored 16 points to lead a hot-shooting Valparaiso offense in a 69-50 victory over Ball State on Wednesday night.
Triton HS graduate Clay Yeo scored nine points and added 6 rebounds in the win for the Crusaders.
Valparaiso (6-4) shot 48.2 percent (27 of 56) from the field and closed the first half on a 12-0 run after Ball State took its only lead of the game at 20-19.
Jesse Berry's 3-pointer gave Ball State (2-5) the lead, but the Cardinals went scoreless in the final 5 minutes of the half and Dority's 3-pointer with 29 seconds left sent the Crusaders to half with a 31-20 advantage.
Valparaiso never surrendered its double-digit lead in the second half, led by Dority with 13 second-half points. The Crusaders shot 59.1 percent from the field in the half.
Jubril Adekoya scored 12 points for Valparaiso. Lexus Williams and Jordan Coleman each added 9.
Mark Alstork scored 11 points for the Cardinals and Berry had 10.
Concord high school alum Franko House had two rebounds for Ball State.
