Bears head coach Gandalf Church knows that his team has what it takes to win, but in their competitive conference nothing will be given to them. That is why he made the 2013 motto "Earn It".
"Its just to send the message that 'Hey every day is about work. Nobody is going to give us a thing,'" says coach. After taking what Church described as a step backward last year missing the playoffs with a 5-4 record the motto extends way past the practice field. "We have to go out and earn everything, every day. Whether that is in the weight room, whether that is the classroom, the meeting room, the practice or in the games."
This year the Bears return roughly 11 starters.
Along with their new motto the team also has a new pace at practice. Coaches have increased the speed in almost everything they do. Coach Church said the goal is to have a more intense team. "We just needed to play faster and with more of a sense of urgency."
Players can already notice the difference. Senior tight end Connor Hubble thinks it will have an big impact on the season. "We are more high paced than last year. It's going pretty well. I think everybody is intense and in to it. Its the beginning of the season and everyone is hyped up. We have a good outlook on the year."
The Bears kick off 2013 at home against Coldwater on August 29th.
