It's been a season for the ages for the New Prairie football team.

For the first time in program history, the Cougars are 10-0. They've outscored their opponents 303-0 over the last five weeks.

So they've given their fans plenty of reasons to cheers. And boy has the New Prairie fan base responded.

On Thursday, WNDU presented New Prairie with the final 16 Spirit Award of the Year. This wasn't just any weekly award, however. It was the Spirit School of the Year.

As voted on by Michiana, the Cougars are the most spirited fans in all of Michiana. New Prairie called a school wide pep rally to accept the award on Thursday.

"It has been a great time," tight end Chad Swan explains. "They've been backing us the whole way. I don't think we could ask for a better student body. They have been helping us out a lot here during the games, they have really made a big difference."

"They have been fantastic," adds coach Russ Radtke. "When we hit our home games it really shows that we have a community base. It helps too because our volleyball team has been doing fantastic job right now, we have cross country going to state. We have tremendous things going on in other sports. And the whole thing is coming together and having a lot of fun. And when we go on road games they really follow us too."

The fans will follow New Prairie on the road on Friday when the Cougars travel to Plymouth to face the 8-2 Rockies in a 4A Sectional Semifinal showdown.
