Notre Dame senior guard Skylar Diggins was a unanimous selection to the women's basketball preseason Associated Press All-America Team Tuesday.
Diggins, who was on the preseason team last year as well, is the first Irish player ever to make the squad twice.
“It means a lot. We’ve had a lot of great players come through here,” Diggins said. “There are a lot of great players in the country and it’s truly an honor to be considered an AP all-American. This is truly a dynamic team we definitely wouldn’t lose many games.”
The South Bend Washington grad has led Notre Dame to the national championship game each of the last two seasons. She averaged nearly 17 points a game last year.
Diggins was one of three unanimous choices joining Baylor's Brittney Griner and Delaware's Elena Delle Donne. All three were post-season All-Americans last year as well.
Also on the preseaon team are Stanford's Chiney Ogwumike, Maryland's Alyssa Thomas and Baylor's Odyssey Sims. Thomas and Sims tied for the final spot for the first time in the preseason team's history.
Notre Dame enters this season ranked 7th after going 35-4 and losing to Baylor in the NCAA Finals last April.
Muffet's Squad plays its only exhibition game Thursday night at 7pm at Purcell Pavilion.
