Skylar: I want to win a national championship so badly

As Skylar Diggins chatted with Muffet McGraw on the court Thursday afternoon at Purcell Pavilion, you could feel this Final Four is different than the previous two for the Irish senior captain.

"i'm super excited," Diggins said with a huge smile. "I kind of don't want it to start because it will end even quicker. Just soak in everything--this whole experience. Whether I like it or not--I only have two games left, at most."

Diggins has said she's playing with a sense of urgency but that she's also not treating this tourney run any differently than previous ones. But does it now 'feel' different?

"Yes--because it's the last one," Skylar explains. "But I think I still approach it the same way if that makes any sense. I think i'm just anxious to get on the court and really I want to do well in every play in practice. My anxiousness is at an all-time high."

Notre Dame departed for New Orleans Thursday afternoon. Skylar would like nothing more than to return with home with the one prize that has eluded her in her illustrious career.

"I want to win a national championship so badly," Diggins said. "Not only for myself but for Notre Dame and the city of South Bend. I hold this team and this university on a pedestal. The fans--how proud would they be--I know they will be proud of us regardless--but I want to go out winning our last game, and you know what they say--3rd time is the charm."

Of course, Notre Dame's opponent UConn is hoping the 3rd time is a charm as well. The Huskies have lost to the Irish in the Final Four in each of the last two seasons.

Tipoff Sunday night is set for approximately 9pm in New Orleans following the Cal-Louisville game.
