SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- The Silver Hawks honored 17 month old J. J. McCartney during Friday night's game.

It's part of the "Home Run for Life Campaign" with Memorial Hospital.

J. J. was born 11 weeks early and weighed just one pound 12 ounces.

Now he's doing great; talking a lot and hoping to walk soon.

His mom, Nan, strolled him around the field for J.J.'s "Home Run for Life" tonight.

“It was unbelievably special, I can’t even accurately put it into words,” said Nan McCartney. “We were beyond touched that Memorial Hospital and the Silver Hawks offered us this opportunity. I just cried the whole time. I’m walking around the park thinking we are so blessed.”

Silver Hawks manager Mark Haley presented J.J. with a Silver Hawks jersey after he crossed the plate.
