Rust's two goals sends Irish Icers to CCHA Semifinals

Bryan Rust scored two goals including the go ahead score in the 3rd period as the Notre Dame hockey team beat Bowling Green 4-3 Saturday night at the Compton Family Ice Arena to win the best of three CCHA quarterfinal series in two games.

The Irish Icers are now off to the CCHA Semifinals next Saturday at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

Rust, who scored the game winner in overtime in game one of the series on Friday night, scored the game's first goal in the 1st period. Nick Larson also scored in the 1st as the Irish opened up a 2-0 lead.

Bowling Green rallied for two goals in the 2nd period to tie it up. Rust then scored on a penalty shot in the 3rd to give ND the lead for good. The Irish pushed the lead to 4-2 on an Anders Lee score before Bowling Green quickly answered to make it a one goal game again. Notre Dame was able to hold on the rest of the way.

The Irish are now 5-0-2 since the outdoor game at Soldier Field which also marked the debut of their new gold helmets.
