Report: George Atkinson out for Oklahoma game due to illness

Notre Dame will be without one of its top playmakers Saturday when it battles 8th ranked Oklahoma in Norman.

ESPN.com's Matt Fortuna reports that kickoff returner and running back George Atkinson III did not travel to the team to Norman due to a illness.

Atkinson was scheduled to be on Brian Kelly's Radio Show Thursday night but was a late 'scratch.'

The sophomore is an explosive player and Notre Dame's top kickoff returner. While he has not returned any kicks for touchdowns this season, he returned two for scores last year.

As Notre Dame's 3rd running back, Atkinson scored the go ahead touchdown against BYU last week to help the 5th ranked Irish improve to 7-0 with a 17-14 win.

Atkinson has four touchdowns this season along with 301 yard rushing.
