Notre Dame ranked 3rd in BCS Standings

As expected, Notre Dame is ranked 3rd in the BCS Standings.

Kansas State is 1st, Oregon is 2nd.

The Irish are #1 in the computers but #3 in both the Coaches and Harris Polls, dropping ND to 3rd overall. Oregon is 1st in both polls and will stay there unless they lose. The Ducks have a tough schedule to close out the season against Stanford, Oregon State and the Pac 12 championship game.

If Notre Dame is left out of the the national championship, they are currently being projected to play in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day against the Big Ten champion.

Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly and Pete DiPrimio of the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel have something in common---they are the only ones to vote Notre Dame #1 in the Polls.

Kelly did so in the coaches poll and DiPrimio in the Associated Press Poll.

Kelly says he had Alabama #1 last week and as per his policy moved the #2 team (Notre Dame) in his ballot up to #1.

Notre Dame is 10-0 after a 21-6 victory over Boston College Saturday night in Chestnut Hill. The Eagles are now just 2-8 but this is the first game this season they've been held without a touchdown.

“You take a look at each team—each team has its in own distinction," Kelly explained. "[Notre Dame] is the #1 scoring defense in the country. If you look at national championship caliber football, you have to a quality defense. We’ve put ourselves in the discussion.”

“If you want style points, look at our defense, look at the schedule we play. 10 FBS games. It’s pretty clear, this football team has been built around our defense. We’ll play one game at a time and let everyone else figure out where we go.”

Notre Dame is ranked 3rd in the Associated Press top 25 this late in the season for the first time since it was #1 in 1993.

Notre Dame has three wins against the BCS Top 25: 12) Oklahoma, 13) Stanford, 21) Michigan. They will have another opportunity against #18 USC to close out the regular season. Before that, the Irish will face Wake Forest in the home finale Saturday at 3:30.

Notre Dame has four wins over teams ranked in the Coaches Top 25 at the time of the game (Michigan St, Michigan, Stanford, Oklahoma) and 3 wins against teams currently in the Top 25 (Michigan, Stanford, Oklahoma).

Kansas State has four wins over teams ranked in the Coaches Top 25 at the time of the game (Oklahoma, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State) and 3 wins against teams currently in the Coaches Top 25 (Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Oklahoma St).
