Notre Dame is 3rd in the BCS Standings after its statement win over 8th-ranked Oklahoma Saturday night in Norman.
Alabama is 1st and Kansas State is 2nd. The top two teams at the end of the regular season, play for the national championship.
Notre Dame's BCS points stand at .915, just .001 ahead of Oregon, which is 4th. Oregon is 2nd in both the Coaches and Harris Polls, which account for 66% of the BCS. Oregon is down on the computers right now due to its weaker schedule but with three games against top 20 teams in the final four games, the Ducks likely will move up in the computer rankings.
The #3 ranking is the highest ever for Notre Dame in the BCS Standings. The Irish were 3rd for two weeks in 2002 before they were upset by Boston College when they were 8-0. That was the last time Notre Dame was 8-0.
The Irish and Kansas State are tied for first in the computer rankings. Notre Dame could drop in that component of the BCS Standings in the coming weeks. ND faces off with three mediocre teams (Pitt, BC, Wake Forest) before a showdown with USC to close out the regular season.
First up is Pitt, Saturday at 3:30 at Notre Dame Stadium.
The Irish have not started a season 9-0 since 1993.
LSU, which plays Alabama Saturday, rounds out the Top 5.
Oklahoma drops to 12th after its loss to Notre Dame. Stanford is 14th and USC is 17th.
