Notre Dame fan reaction from South Florida

From South Bend to South Beach, the Irish loyal stood behind their team, no matter what the outcome of Monday night's game.

What began as a weekend full of hope fell short for the Irish fans here.

Those that bleed blue and gold eager to witness the team take to the national stage for this championship, but the scoreboard told a different story, one that placed Alabama back on top.

The night began with Irish fans actually falling from the sky.

“Once we got into the stadium it was unreal 80,000 people cheering the crowd was amazing, like nothing else I have ever seen before,” says Ryan McKilligan a ND fan. “I have been a Notre Dame fan since I was a kid and to get this opportunity, unreal.”

Row after row of fans gearing up for a night they thought would make history. As the game advanced, the expressions changed from enthusiasm to concern, and eventually, frustration.

The Alabama side with much to celebrate, while ND nation looked on in worry.

Still, many of these fans say they are leaving with their heads held high and are proud of their team for taking them on such an amazing journey this season.

“Experience of a lifetime,” says Shawn Matthews a ND Student. “This is my senior year. Even though it did not end the way we wanted it to. I could not have asked for anything better.”

“I would rather lose in the BCS than win the Cotton Bowl,” says Edward McDonald a ND Fan. “Miami experience it was all great.”

“This team is in a good place for success in the future he said his fourth year was going to be the year,” said ND fan Dave Turner

The Notre Dame side of the stadium did clear out very quickly Monday night, only some sticking around for the trophy presentation, understandably so.

It is clear, the fans have been reminded what it is like to be so close to that National Title, and they want to be back next year.
