Irish turn to Grace to help fill hole left by Manti Te'o

South Bend, Ind. The Irish return eight starters on a defense that was one of the best in the nation in 2012.

Coordinator Bob Diaco won the Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach. But there is a big hole to fill at inside linebacker with the graduation of Manti Te'o.

That spot will be filled by three guys: Carlo Calabrese, Dan Fox and Jarrett Grace. Calabrese and Fox having been working as the starters at inside linebacker with Fox shifting over into Manti's old spot. But Grace will see significant playing time this season as well.

"My game still has a ways to go," Grace said. "It's being in camp, we're installing new things every day. That's what I'm focused on each day--just what we are doing that day. I'm not trying to be some great linebacker whenever, I'm just trying to master everything each day."

The Irish open the 2013 season against Temple on August 31st.
