For the third time in four years, the Irish women's basketball team is back in the Sweet 16 and for the third time in four years, they are facing Oklahoma in the Big Dance.
Notre Dame lost to the Sooners in the Sweet 16 last year. Now they shoot for revenge Saturday at 2:30 in Dayton on ESPN.
Sklyar Diggins hasn't forgotten about last year's game by any means.
"When you're blessed to be with a team that is good and gets to the Sweet 16--and has expectations to get further--and you leave early, then that's a feeling of underacheiving," Diggins says looking back at last year's game.
"This year, we see ourselves as Final Four--Championship level and we feel like we're practicing like that, preparing ourselves for that, mentally there for that. And now we have to produce on the court."
Natalie Novosel has produced the most on the court between this year and last year's game. She remembers being on the bench as the Irish lost in overtime. Now she wants a different outcome.
"We've been here--we know what it felt like to lose and now we're here once again," Novosel explains.
The Irish defeated Utah and Temple to get to the Sweet 16. They know getting here is a big accomplishment itself.
"It's great to still be playing," coach Muffet McGraw says. "It's great to be practicing and working on a game plan. We were expecting to get to the Sweet 16 and now the real fun begins."
